A Lesson Learned and a Nightstand Notebook

A couple of years ago I was expecting Mr4 and some things were going on in the news that had me greatly stressed.

It could have been hormones that took me to another level of stress but regardless of that, It made me want to yell, to hide in my house with my boys and never come out, it made me want to write a letter. I went to bed much later than I should have, I wasn’t even tired. Ideas were swirling in my head so I was invigorated. All night long I was drafting a letter in my head. One was filled with anger. One was filled with my disappointment in the organization. Around 3am I finally got up, found a scrap piece of paper on my nightstand and wrote down some notes. I instantly felt better, relieved. Once I got my physical self comfortable, not easy to do at 7 months pregnant, I went to sleep.  I was swirling these ideas in my head over and over again not simply to try and draft the perfect letter but I was unconsciously doing it so I didn’t forget these words.

Last week a similar scenario happened, all except for the pregnant part, and I was relieved when I wrote it down. I didn’t think back to how much better I felt after writing it and barely slept all night long. The next morning, I grabbed my all-purpose notebook, flipped to an open page and scrawled my ideas. I instantly felt less frantic, less worried I’d forget these ideas. I have finally learned my lesson and will now place a notebook and pencil right in my nightstand for nights just like these two infamous nights.   There are many other factors to why I may not sleep (eh hem, Mr4…) but now I can at least stay cozy in my bed and unpack any mental baggage I need to if that is the culprit to the lack of slumber.

  1. I’m not usually woken up with thoughts like this but I do like to keep a notebook nearby all day. Definitely helps stop the mental swirl!

  2. I love this! I have such a hard time sleeping at times with so many thoughts in my head. Maybe if I just took 10 minutes to dump them onto paper I could sleep AND actually remember some of the good ideas (I think) I have!

  3. Whoa! This blog looks exactly like my old one!
It’s on a completely different subject but it has pretty much the same page layout and design.
    Excellent choice of colors!
