Zucchini

I have two plants and one is doing well, the other is producing but struggling. Not sure how they could be so different right next to each other but it’s no biggie as its giving us a nice amount to harvest.  I have been shredding and freezing a lot!

Yellow beans

I have already canned several pints and hope to get another batch in the canner.  They are still going  strong!

Broccoli

I have harvested several heads and now the small floret offshoots.  Several have succumbed to the heat and  bolted.  Overall a good harvest.

Tomatoes

They plants look terrible but the fruit is finally ripening. It wont be the harvest we had last year but I’ll be able preserve some.  I may pop what I have in the freezer and can it all at once in the fall.

Butternut squash

The squash  bugs won.  There is one small squash that will hopefully ripen but the plant is suffering and I didnt catch the bugs in time to help it.

Spaghetti Squash

This plant is fighting the bugs but still growing and producing.

Cucumbers

These plants seem like they are done with their peak.  We are getting a few here and there. I wont grow Lemon Cucumbers next year.  They are terrible but they aren’t delicious either.

Potatoes

We harvested a small batch for a dinner and they were delicious!  The plants look terrible so soon we will harvest everything and prep the rows by amending.

Onions

I harvested the red onions but don’t have a good set up to cure any more yet so I”m leaving the yellow onions in the ground. My plan is to amend with compost,  put a cover crop in the bed,  and when that dies in the frost to pop  in the garlic for next year.

Beets

The beets are doing well! The first planting has been  eaten, pickled or canned. I plan to leave the second planting in the ground and harvest when the storage area in the basement is cool enough to store them.

Pumpkins

We have a big one! It’s the size of a small beach ball right now. I pulled off the blossoms on the vine so I’m hoping that will give some energy to the pumpkin.

Carrots

We will have a small harvest but I plan to leave those in the ground until I am ready to use them.

Flowers

The dahlias are amazing!! I’ve cut several and enjoyed them in the house.  I plan to get the tags that wrap around the tubers so I can better organize and know what is what color and size.  I received some from a friend and they are just about the open, cant wait to see what they bloom to!The sunflowers are the tallest I’ve ever grown.

What are you learning in your garden this season?I’d love to hear what working and not working for you!
