Hello and welcome to this years Garden Journal! It’s May in Maine and the garden is starting as we eagerly wait for the last frost date at the end of the month.

I have lots of things growing under grow lights. Cucumbers, basil, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage and more. I started petunias for the first time this year. I started them in mid March and one of the plants has a little bud on it already! I also started gomphrena. They are getting tired of being inside but it’s just not quite time to get them outside yet.

Last weekend my boys and I started weeding and prepping. There is still much to be done but it’s a good start. The paths are being raked up onto the rows and compost goes on top of that. I’ll put cardboard or newspaper down on the pathways and top that with woodchips soon. I have major weeding to still but the fact that some of the rows are shaping up is encouraging to keep going on the really bad rows.

Onions are in the ground, about 100 plants. I started the seeds in February and hardened them off last week.
Asparagus is up! I’ll hopefully harvest some next week!

We are enjoying tulips, daffodils, grape hyacinth and lots of buds on trees just waiting to burst in to bloom. The clematis is really shooting up to climb along the trellises Mr1 made me in his woodshop class.

Be sure to stop by and check out how the garden is growing through this season. Thanks for reading!
