Save Even More Time When Using Your Bread Machine

Toast, sandwiches, aside a bowl of hot soup and many other uses. I use my bread machine to save money and control the ingredients in our bread. Do you have a bread machine?

Do you love the smell of fresh baking bread? Do you enjoy your bread machine to have a warm loaf with your dinner? When we had our last last two houses up for sale I’d use the time feature to have a loaf of bread wafting through air while we had a showing scheduled. I like to think we sold our homes well because of the bread.

I have had my 1 pound bread machine for 5 years and use it multiple times a week. I mostly use it for a simple white sandwich bread. We enjoy it with sandwiches and toast.  One way I save time in an already quick process is to make up jars of the dry ingredients and have them stashed in my pantry. All I have to do is measure the water, milk and oil and the loaf is ready to go.

Tips to Remember

My bread machine’s instructions specify that the yeast is to be the last ingredient to be added and not touch any liquid.  With my jar method I put the yeast in the jar first followed by the salt, sugar, and flour.

Gently pour from side to side to prevent the yeast from touching the liquid.

Use a canning funnel to ensure the ingredients get into the jar especially if you have little helpers in the kitchen.

I often use hot water and rely on the milk’s cold temperature to cool it down so it doesn’t kill the yeast.  I wont call it a recommendation but you can rely on your own convictions when a recipe calls for luke warm liquids.

Use this method to save you time when you want to polish off your dinner plan with a fresh loaf of bread. Its also handy late at night when you aren’t sure what will be for breakfast the next day. Toss in a loaf and you have toast and eggs to start your day.

My bread machine is integral when I am in a Pantry Challenge. I often send a fresh loaf of bread home with grandparents who come and watch my boys or help me with a project. If you have a bread machine and rarely use it I encourage you to pull it out and dust it off. It’s a tool that can save you money and gain you control of ingredients.

  1. I love this tip! Why didn’t I think of that LOL. I love anything that saves me a little extra time as a mom. I don’t have a bread machine yet but I think it could definitely be a good investment. If you don’t mind my asking, can you let us know the make and price point and how you like it?

    1. I have the Mini Zojurushi 1 pound bread machine. on a quick amazon search it comes up for about $200. I’m sure you’ll find some good sales coming up!
