Opened in 1923, Husseys General Store is an icon of rural Maine. Located just East or Augusta in Windsor, Maine, Hussey’s sign tells you of their inventory including guns, beer, wedding gowns, and everything in between. Their slogan is “If we aint got it, you don’t need it” .
I have been a few times prior but the day I stopped in to snap pics for this blog post it was just myself and Mr2. We perused around wide eyed as he had never been. You first walk in and see the grocery department. A great selection of produce, baked goods, pre-made items and deli. You truly can stop in for a quick gallon of milk and bananas or do your full week of grocery shopping here. Turn the corner on the main level and you come to the gift section. Hussey’s offers a wonderful selection of books, home decor and Maine souvenirs.
Mr 2 and I went upstairs next and saw the clothing department, book nook, guns, camping, and bridal departments. Everything from everyday clothing to hunting specific apparel. I know a few friends who came to Hussey’s for their wedding gowns. What a fun way to plan your wedding!
We then headed down two floors to check out the hardware which includes gardening supplies, paint, electrical and plumbing, and wood stoves.
Mr. 2 and I ended up grabbing a treat on our way out the door. If you are looking for a beautiful drive not far from Augusta and fun stop to grab some Maine swag, groceries, formal wear or a wood stove, Hussey’ General Store is the place to go!
