When I was approached about writing a review about Scio Academy I was excited to get to dive in and really learn about what this great company offers. I had heard about the website for a couple of years but our family home school needs hadn’t yet lead me to the support and resources Scio Academy offers. Fast forward to next fall with a 7th grader who will need support in Math that I am not sure I can give him, I am glad I had this opportunity. Finding a God centered program for my homeschooler that still keeps myself as the teacher and parent with the level of knowledge and passion Lori and Amanda offer is a huge blessing.

When I first started homeschooling Mr1 was entering Kindergarten. One of my main concerns for his education was my ability to support him in math when he gets older. I’m fairly confident in most basic elementary math concepts but was uneasy about teaching the years past 6-7th grade. Knowing how to complete and understand concepts is one thing but teaching it is another. I’m so glad Scio is available! Scio Academy offers affordable memberships to give students the courses they need as well as tutoring and support for parents. This takes the worry away from parents and equips them to confidently continue homeschooling through the upper grades.

Classes can be enjoyed live or via recorded sessions. Their course offerings include Pre Algebra, Algebra 1, Logic 1,Geometry, Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, and Intellectual Arithmetic. Self paced courses include Shakespeare- As You Like It, Arithmetic, Editing Workshop, Shakespeare- King Lear, Shakespeare- A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare Richard III. Writing and Editing Membership, including Live tutoring will be available in Fall 2020.
Students can work through any math text though Lori’s videos are specific to her selected and suggested programs. The mini courses Scio offers are skill building courses and can mostly stand alone from other programs. Amanda’s editing course includes homework and her Shakespeare courses suggest writing assignments along with a student’s knowledge and reading of the play.

Lori offers monthly Educator Sessions and unlimited Tutor access via email. Amanda supports students and parents with writing workshops and monthly paper editing services. All of these things are offered for $25 per month per math and writing for the entire family to take advantage of support, discussion, and ease of mind for their middle and high school students.

Scio Academy is a valuable resource for homeschooling families to support their middle and high school students in math and writing. The value offered and the high level of knowledge and expertise cant be beat. As you explore and look at options for the fall I encourage you to reach out to Lori and Amanda at Scio Academy.
