These Date Squares are a favorite of my Mother in Laws. Mister’s Aunt makes them and she is a baker of many years. When I got this recipe she had to give me slight estimates on some of the measurements. I did my best and these came out great for my Mother In Laws birthday a couple of weeks ago. I actually forgot how delicious they are and even Mister, who doesn’t care for dates, enjoyed them! I love how this recipe reminds me of his Aunt when I bake it. This is a great recipe if you are looking to bake up a treat and need something other than a brownie or cookie. As fall baking comes up soon I know I”ll be making them again for a church gathering or a treat for our home school group at lunch.
An old fashioned, delicious treat perfect with a cup of coffee and family and friends.

Combine brown sugar, oats, flour and baking soda. Add melted butter and stir to combine. Set aside mixture.
In a saucepan combine water, dates, sugar and nuts. Cook until thick. * If mixture isn't thickening, you can use an immersion blender to break it down to the consistency you'd like.
Pour half of the oat mixture into a greased 9x13 pan. Press mixture down into pan to create the crust.
Pour date mixture evenly over crust.
Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture over date mixture.
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until top is browned. Let cool completely and slice into bars. Enjoy!

oh my gosh it looks so good! This is an ideal snack for me when I need a quick munch. Will try this!
This looks absolutely delicious! I’ve never had anything with date, I should definitely give it a try!
Looks delicious!
These sound delicious! I love dates. Have you ever tried to substitute the sugar for honey or maple syrup? I don’t usually use white sugar when I can help it. Thanks!
I havent myself as this is an old family recipe but I dont see why it wouldnt work for the date filling. I’m not sure how the base would work and hold together. Let’s try it out and report back on what we figure out!
I love the dates squares, but recipe is a bit different and yummier. Will surely try this
Yum! I love the sweetness of dates, and these sound so good!
