We have always read aloud to our kiddos but after reading The Read Aloud Family I have really pushed myself to do more.  I keep our current book on the counter so I can grab it for a quick few pages here and there and encourage my two readers to take over and read aloud for us once in a while. The boys love it and ask more anytime we read.  I love the connections we make through books like an inside joke between us and the author.  We are learning new words, experiencing different lands and sharing time together. One way we enjoy stories is in the car, after we tuck the boys in as they go to sleep, and when I’m cooking meals . This is especially helpful in not turning on the tv (click here to read about how we have cut our screen time) .  We listen to stories on our Echo Dot or my phone on Audible. I snag up deals on books when they are under $5 and regularly start and restart our Audible membership. My boys often ask for money towards credits for books for their birthdays or Christmas. Here are myself and three oldest boys current favorite audio books:

Melissa:

Five Love Languages- I’ve heard references to this book for so many years and read this as a precursor to the kids version. That one is on my to read/listen to list! This was a great listen with narration by the author. I highly recommend this one if you are aiming to strengthen relationships all around you.

Teaching from Rest-I’ve said it before and I”ll said it again. This is a MUST read for homeschooling moms. I should have read it much sooner in our schooling years. Sarah Mackenzie seems to talk directly to me as I’m wrestling a toddler trying to ‘not mess up’ my school age boys. This is a book I aim to read or listen to every year and I always take away something new.

Anne of Green Gables- I am an Anne girl through and through. I was so excited when my boys enjoyed this one with me on a long car ride. Anne’s adventures never get old!

Mr1:

Little Britches Series- This series is a story of Ralph who travels all over, including Maine. We naturally gravitated to it because of that simple fact but his families journeys hold everyone’s attention and keep us wanting to learn more and travel with them.

Matchlock Gun- My boys love history and with the word gun in it they eagerly took my suggestion.

Mr2:
Geronimo Stilton-Geronimo will have my boys in stitches of laughter every story. With all of the cheese references it’s no wonder Mr2 loves any book about Geronimo.

Magic Tree House- We have ventured with Jack and Annie long before we listened to audio books. These are great stories to learn tidbits of other lands and cultures.

Mr3

Peter Rabbit- Mr3 listens to this any night it’s his turn to choose the story. It is a collection of stories so it can be enjoyed for a short period of time or a long one without interrupting the listener. This one is only $.99 cents!

Peter Pan-Because Mr3 listens to the above story so often we had to find another one so his roommate (Mr2) would also enjoy. The classic story of Peter and Wendy, they love it!

Disney Storybook- Fun little stories about characters from movies we know and love.

What are your favorite audio titles? We’d love to add more to our digital library! Happy listening!
