A Day Date Up a Mountain

                This summer Mister and I were in dire need of a day together sans little boys and sans house projects and discussions.  Mr4 was still nursing at night so an evening date wasn’t going to work but with some planning my Mother in Law was able to take the boys and we were able to go for a hike. It was overcast and cooler than it had been the weeks prior but perfect for hiking. Borestone Mountain was a place we had both hiked as kids so it was fun to go back as adults and re discover the gem that it is.  We got to the mountain around 10 that morning and started up. Both of us were already feeling our fitness levels before we were up too far. We kept asking ourselves “how did we do this as little kids?” then we realized we parked farther from the visitors center this trip than we had when we were kids. Phew!  We got to the visitor’s center, checked in and looked around at the displays for a bit. After we caught our breath and legs, we headed up the trail. We passed a few folks on the decent end of their hike and they were all glowing from their venture up and the view at the top. There were a few spots where I was a little leery of slipping. Mister was sure I didn’t give my feet enough credit.

We finally reached the top and were rewarded with a breathtaking view. I snapped pictures, we relaxed and had water and snacks.  I checked in really quick with the boys, I had much better cell reception at the top of the mountain! We moved to a couple more spots on the summit and then headed down.  I always find the downhill end of a run, walk or hike to be more difficult.  On my joints, and my bladder (hello, four pregnancies…) We made our way down and took a moment to get more water and stretch and headed back. There were some super cute shops along the way back to my Mother in Laws and we stopped and had lunch at Stutzman’s Bakery and farm stand. A delicious lunch of pizza, soup and dessert and fantastic produce to take home too. So glad we were able to take a day for ourselves and grateful to have family to help us out. If you and your spouse find yourself needing time together but can’t finagle a date night, consider a day date!
