This is documentation from one day I opened my notebook and wrote down what we did for the day. This is as typical as any homeschooling family with 4 children can have. Some days will look just like this, others not at all. I think these types of articles are enjoyed for two different goals: a reader wants to compare their day and see if it’s super different or super similar to their own or they are curious about homeschooling and want to see what it might be like. What is your goal in checking out this rambling of mine? I hope after you read you see that we are all just trying to do our best and what God wants for our families.
6:00am- alarm goes off for me. I put on my workout clothes, they are laid out the night before. I go downstairs and wake up a bit while I make coffee and then sit and read my Bible. I have only taken up coffee drinking over the last 6 months or so. It started out that I needed it to wake up as Mr. 4 wasn’t sleeping through the night until not too long ago and to help me out with some digestion issues I was having. He is sleeping mostly each night now but I have come to enjoy a single cup each morning. Another benefit of sleeping through the night regularly is that I can get up and have my own quiet time in the morning. I was reading my bible at night for as long as I can remember. It was a fine time but I prefer it in the morning along with some time to myself.

6:30- Workout- I have always been a morning workout person and am so excited that I have been able to get in my 20 minutes of interval and strength training in. It makes me feel so much better through the entire day. If I have to, I’ll do it after the boys are awake but I really like to get it done before the day begins. After the workout I’ll watch a couple of Youtube videos while I stretch and cooldown.
7:00am- Boys wake up as I eat a banana and start sipping my coffee. I use my Yeti so it stays hot as I make my cup stretch through the morning. I eat my banana first thing so I have something in my belly before my coffee and after my workout. I just opened up my laptop to check my email and do some blog stuff but it’ll have to wait as the little boys and I like to sit and snuggle when they first wake up. We sit at the table this morning and enjoy the sunshine coming in the window. Up until recently we would put on a tv show for everyone as I made breakfast. I really like how our mornings are going now that we don’t have tv involved. I’m planning on writing a post about how we do with a drastic cut in our tv time soon so stay tuned!

7:30- breakfast for 3 of my 4 boys. Today is a Wednesday so we have oatmeal. Mr. 4 and I have ours with blueberries and maple syrup. Mr. 2 enjoys his with strawberry jam and Mr. 3 likes his with peanut butter. Mr. 1 was still sleeping but he also has his with a generous dollop of peanut butter.
8:00am- Mr. 1 is finally awake so he eats his oatmeal and I go upstairs with everyone else. I change Mr. 4 and get myself in the shower. I give the boys a 9am warning of the start time for school. I tidy my room after I get dressed.
8:30- tidy the boys room a bit and get laundry put away.

9:00- at the table to start school. We pray for our day and our homeschool and say the pledge of allegiance. The boys grab a connect the dots book, white board or notebook to doodle and draw while I read the Bible and we all answer questions together. Next we run through our CC review for that week.
9:20- Boys start their math lessons, Mr. 1 on the computer and Mr. 2 with his workbook. Little boys enjoy a show. Usually Blippi or a LeapFrog DVD.
10:00am – Mr. 1 reviews his spelling words and cursive workbook. Mr. 2 finishes math and works on his cursive then plays with the little brothers. He’s been dealing with some sensory issues this year so sometimes cursive gets done, sometimes it doesn’t.
10:30- Break for snack and a quick video chat with my Mother In Law. This snack break is more for a landmark in the morning than an actual cure for hunger. “Just work until break time…” is my mantra.
10:45-Mr. 2 does his math drills on xtramath.com and we do his reading lesson. Mr. 1 plays with the little brothers.
11:00- Our Contractor comes to finish some things while Mr. 1 and I work on Essentials. We run through a sentence by labeling it with the question confirmation method and then he diagrams it. He reviews his charts for that week.
11:45- start lunch while Mr. 1 works on his Faces of History paper.

12:00-12:30- lunch and clean up while everyone has playtime outside. It’s cold but they all feel better after even a few minutes of fresh air.
1:00- nap for Mr. 4. He prefers to sleep on Mr. 1’s bed (they share a room) for naps. At first I didn’t want it to be a habit but it’s actually been fine. He loves sleeping in brother’s bed and naps haven’t been any different than if he was in his crib. We can all hear when he wakes up so it’s been working well. Mr. 3 and I relax on my bed with stories and snuggles and Mr. 1 and Mr. 2 play Legos.
2:30- I’m up and sorted Legos for a bit. They are still in a moving box and I’m hoping to get them sorted by general type. After sorting I grab our current read aloud and lay on the bed and read while they continue building.

3:30- we all get out for a walk.

4:00- Mr. 4 detests coming inside after outside play so I have to really work to help him calm down. We read some books while the older boys go back upstairs to build Legos.
4:30- My new rug arrives at the door so I lay it out and get it settled in the living room.
4:45- start dinner. Wednesdays are now our leftover night. The boys had quesadillas with Tuesday’s leftover taco meat. I made a taco salad for Mister and I.
5:15- 5:45- Mister gets home from work, we eat dinner. Clean up and get ready for church.
6:40-head to church. Mister and I teach the 4-year old’s a few times a month. Mr. 1 and 2 are in Bible Club and Mr. 4 plays in the nursery.
8:40- head home. The boys know the drill after church. Go upstairs, go to the bathroom, wash your hands, brush your teeth, pjs on and get in bed. Mr. 1 and 2 usually do pretty well Mr. 3 needs some help both because he’s 4 and he’s pretty tired at this point. Often Mister and I get our pjs on and go back downstairs to relax a bit or I clean up what I didn’t get done before we left.
10:00- go to bed. I got upstairs at a decent time so I read for a short bit (I’m currently reading The Cozy Minimalist and I’m loving it! ) then lights out after I set the clock for 6 and hope and pray I sleep a decent night so I can do it all again tomorrow!

As someone starting homeschool in the fall this is tremendously helpful!! We have 5..with only 3 being school aged, so it is so nice to see someone with multiple ages and exactly what you do. Thank you!
I’m so glad you found it helpful, exactly why I shared our day! Thanks for stopping by!
God bless you…that is some schedule! Your children are very lucky.
Thanks for sharing your homeschooling day in the life routine. I homeschool my 10-year-old daughter as well and found looking at your schedule very helpful!
Great schedule. My BFF homeschools and I think it is amazing.
Wow you juggle a lot. I’m still in the totschool phase myself. I look forward to the full homeschool days though. Thanks!
You are a busy mama! I love that you make time in the morning for your time with God and to workout. I definitely could do better about carving out that time.
I really enjoyed reading this. We have seven children, five boys and two girls. They are VERY spread out in ages. The older boys are all adults now, but your days sound like mine did at one time. Enjoy them, they fly by and suddenly they are adults!
Thats a very successful school day! Great schedule. It’s all about routine.
Your schedule is amazing. I homeschool too and I am struggling a little. This post was actually pretty encouraging that I can’t get it together and be able to get everything done in one day. Thank you.
Give yourself grace! We cannot get it all done every day. You are doing a great job!!
Such a great peek into your day! Thank you! You’re doing a great job 🙂 I finished The Cozy Minimalist last month…so good!
I’m going to go get The Nesters first book to read next! Thanks for stopping by:-)
Very impressive that you can do all that with four. Nice work momma.
