Tucked at the end of a dirt road in quiet Palmyra, rests Eureka Farms. They are doing anything but resting though! A booming farm with a desire to provide local products for their community. Maple Syrup, honey, peanut butter, eggs, baked goods, beans, bee keeping supplies, salsas, jams, popcorn…..I could keep going.
The farm itself was a dairy farm up until 2001. Seth and Hollis, the father and son team behind Eureka, joined forces and bought the farm in 2010. I first enjoyed Eureka Farm on a Maine Maple Weekend event two years ago. The maple syrup was boiling away, there were horse and carriage rides. Delicious popcorn and maple cotton candy were being served. We went home with a big jug of maple syrup and enjoyed a muddy but fun spring day outside. Maine Maple Weekend is an annual event all over the State to celebrate and draw people to the source of one of Maine’s wonderful products, Maple Syrup.
When you walk into the self serve store the senses are enlightened with the smells, displays and wide variety of products. The coolers are stocked with fresh eggs from their chickens. Next to them are whoopie pies, my boys favorites. One of their newest products, fresh peanut butter, is available in multiple flavors. On the day I last visited, sat next to samples for you to try before you buy. I personally loved the honey peanut butter for eating right off the spoon, the chocolate variety is delicious on a banana or graham crackers. While there one of the staff came by and recommended the chocolate peanut butter on a Maine staple food, a fluffernutter sandwich.
I had honey on my shopping list on one specific trip to Eureka Farm. I picked out my bottle of delicious honey and tucked it in the van and drove home. As I pulled into the driveway it dawned on me to pick up the glass jar of honey before I opened the side door of my van so it didn’t roll out and smash on the ground. I put the honey in a random shopping bag and started walking to the door when I feel a release of weight from the bag and hear a bit of a crash at my feet. All of that beautiful golden, local honey was in a puddle on the ground. I went straight in and messaged the farm. They promptly responded and assured me I could pick up a jar to replace the one that was in pieces on the driveway. I share this little story because I want you to know that’s they kind of business they run. Truly devoted to supporting their customers, community and importance of local products from a small business.

The farms future plans include meat sales which opens them up to one more product for folks to purchase locally. Take a turn onto Shy Road in Palmyra and slow down a bit, for the roads sake, and for yourself so you can stop and enjoy where you are and the fact that you are about to buy delicious, locally made products and supporting a Maine business.

We love supporting local businesses, especially farms. I’m all about that syrup! When we were in Maine last summer, we visited local a few local farms. There is no comparison between store bought and farm fresh!
