Rockwood Cottages

Last week we took the drive to Rockwood, Maine and enjoyed 3 nights at Rockwood Cottages. Nestled on the shores of Moosehead Lake and offering a beautiful view of Mt. Kineo, this destination is one I will recommend again and again.

Our family was planning on attending a wedding celebration out of state until those plans changed because of Covid-19 restrictions. Because we had already budgeted for a trip we decided to find another spot to visit. Mister and I looked and looked for some options on vacation rental websites but we felt like we were going in circles and everything was slightly out of our budget. I finally gave Dennis a call at Rockwood cottages and explained that we were a family of 6 and looking to rent something that would accommodate our family as well as my parents. Dennis had two cottages next to each other and the rates were in our price range. We booked our 3 nights right then!

My mom and I made a rough meal plan so we had an idea of what groceries to get. I made a few things to bring up, I made sure to use foil pans so I wasn’t worried about bringing a dish back home. We enjoyed lots of treats like cookies and candy, lots of the fun of camping and vacation is food right? We had all we needed and didn’t end up taking home a ton of food. Another factor of a successfully planned time away. I made my No Boil Mac and Cheese that I added broccoli to and we enjoyed with grilled hot dogs and brats. I also made my Darn Good Cookies, there really isnt a bad occasion for these cookies. I also made a crumb coffee cake that we had for breakfast while we enjoyed the delicious view of Mt. Kineo.

We stopped on the way in Greenville at a couple of spots and had our eyes peeled for moose all the way up. Mister grew up hunting and fishing in this area and the boys have all gone there with him a bit. They really enjoyed hearing Daddy’s stories of his time up there as a boy.

We arrived at Rockwood Cottages and met Dennis and Emily. They are so friendly and clearly enjoy hosting guests and sharing their part of Maine. The boys had a ball zipping through the rustic cabins and checking them all out. After the vehicles were unloaded the fishing poles were grabbed and taken straight to the dock. I had no idea each of my boys loved fishing so much but we all had a ball casting. No one caught anything but they didn’t seem phased by that. My mom and I aren’t skilled with a fishing pole but we enjoyed sitting along the shore supervising and enjoying the view of Mt. Kineo.

The weather wasn’t forecast to be too great but our prayers were surely answered. Though it rained it really didn’t stop us from doing much except swimming. Rockwood Cottages offers a large dock with swimming. There is a beach front about a mile away that would allow for little ones to play along the shore while others were swimming. We had our rain coats when we were out and about exploring the B52 Crash site (more on that soon!) and for a couple of walks. Another day we drove to Greenville and visited Indian Hill Trading Post (More on that soon!) as well as downtown Greenville’s shops. We brought my laptop so the boys had a couple of movies to watch so we set them up in the afternoons when it was raining and we all enjoyed some down time. I enjoyed large chunks of reading time which was quite a treat!

The cabins we stayed in had a full fridge, toaster, coffee maker, range and cooking utensils. Plates, cups, silverware, mugs and sink and dish washing supplies meant we didn’t have to use disposable paper products at all!

I would love for you to add Rockwood Cottages to your list of places to stay if you are exploring Northern Maine. Either your family or just you and your spouse or friends. Dennis and Emily will take great care of you and you are sure to make lots of memories!
